The story
Telling someone their website is slow does not mean much. Showing them is a different conversation, which is why I built the same business twice.
The first version is a faithful recreation of the kind of site a lot of South African businesses are still running: Bootstrap, jQuery, photos straight off a camera at five megabytes each, and a layout that needs pinch-zooming on a phone. Not a parody, just genuinely dated, the way real sites go when nobody touches them for ten years.
The second version is the same business, same photos, same information, rebuilt properly. Then I measured both the same way and published the results on the site, including the two rows where the rebuild does not win. The numbers are the whole argument, so they had to be real.
What I built
- A deliberately dated legacy site, built to be believable rather than a strawman
- A full rebuild with the same content and photography
- A case study page documenting the audit, the fixes and the measurements
- Lighthouse, page weight and Core Web Vitals captured for both, unedited
- Click-to-call, WhatsApp and a working quote form on the rebuild
