The story
Guesthouse owners have a specific complaint, and it is always the same one: the booking platforms take a cut of every single night. This is what taking bookings on your own site looks like instead.
Guests pick their dates, see which rooms are actually free for that whole stay, and send a booking request. The owner confirms it from an admin calendar that also handles the bookings that came in by phone, and the dates that need to be blocked out for family or maintenance.
Nights are a different problem from appointments. A stay covers a range, not a slot, and the day someone checks out is the same day the next guest can check in. Getting that boundary wrong either double-books the room or loses a night every changeover, so the overlap rules are the part I spent the most time on.
What I built
- Availability calendar per room, driven by real bookings and blocked dates
- Date-range search that only shows rooms free for the entire stay
- Booking requests the owner confirms or declines, with emails either way
- Admin calendar covering the whole property, plus phone bookings and blocked ranges
- Room management with rates, sleeps and photos
